Our History

The Baptist Church in Boyup Brook began sometime during the 1960’s.

This was the passion of a local family, farming very successfully for many years in the Mayanup district. â€‹Initially services were held at various different locations within the town which led to it being decided that it was time to have a purpose-built dwelling. The family had already owned a house in Railway parade which they were able to offer to a Pastor and his wife.

The original Church building contained the Baptistry, the kitchen, the now foyer and two toilets. The original church furniture including the pulpit and wooden pews were made by a local builder. His wife was a wonderful and keen contributor to the congregation, for many years doing all the cleaning each week and providing the flowers, just a tiny arrangement in a small pottery container that still exists.

Due to the increase in the numbers attending, a further decision was made to extend the church you can see today and private funds were contributed to have this completed. The builder was a local man and the son of a farmer whose own father willed the Rylington Park farm to the community of Boyup Brook.

In time the founding family also arranged for the current house to be transported from another district to its location today and used as the manse. Many hours were contributed by the congregation, and others have helped physically and financially, to maintain the building in its current condition, including the addition of the deck and the carport.

Although it is difficult to know how many people regularly attended, records show there was often a morning and evening service and a very active Sunday school bringing in children from within the townsite. For many years children had to complete their lessons in parked cars and later used the manse due to shortage of space. Annual Sunday School camps and picnics were part of the annual calendar.
